Swedish drummer and composer based in Oslo, working across a wide range of musical constellations.

LAV SOL
LAV SOL is an imaginative electronica-impro trio featuring August Glännestrand on drums, Heiða Karine Jóhannesdóttir Mobeck on tuba, and Håvard Aufles on keys. Together, they create immersive soundscapes where acoustic instruments meet cutting-edge electronics.
Liv Andrea Hauge Trio
The trio consists of Liv Andrea Hauge on piano and composition, Kertu Aer on bass, and August Glännestrand on drums. Since forming in 2022, they have toured across Europe and Japan, releasing Ville Blomster in 2024 and Døgnville in 2025. The trio combines clear melodic compositions with space for improvisation, often following a loose setlist while leaving room for spontaneous interactions between the musicians.

han gaiden
han gaiden has become one of the most exciting acts in Norway’s electronic underground scene, known for their vocal harmonies, danceable beats, and visually engaging live shows. Kristin Mella Myhrvold, August Glännestrand and Ingrid Skåland Lia combines live sampling, beats, and manipulated textures to create experimental soundscapes that merge danceable rhythms with avant-garde concepts.

PHØNIX
features Emil Storløkken Åse on guitar, Jenny Frøysa on baryton saxophone and synth, and August Glännestrand on drums and drum machines. The trio blends jazz, rock, and psychedelic elements with improvisation, creating energetic and groove-driven performances. Named NTNU Ambassadors 2025, they have released Under the Sun (2023) and Intergaloptic Roundtrip (2024).
Aksel Rønning Trio
An Oslo-based jazz trio expanding the classic saxophone-centered trio format with electronic elements. With Aksel Rønning on saxophone/electronics, August Glännestrand on drums, and Eskild Okkenhaug on double bass, the trio has released two studio albums and one live album on Øra Fonogram and will release their fourth album in February 2026 on Koke Lur Records.
Alex Ventling's Wavemakers
An international quartet led by pianist, composer, and visual artist Alex Ventling (NZ/CH), featuring Tuva Halse (violin), Amund Stenøien (vibraphone), and August Glännestrand (drums). The group creates slowly unfolding, groove-based music where detailed compositions and improvisation are tightly interwoven. Floating melodies, layered textures, and a strong sense of collective momentum shape a sound that balances fragility and power. Often described as chamber jazz, Wavemakers moves between cinematic atmospheres and rhythmic drive, forming a living, breathing musical organism built through close interaction and long-form development.
Other constellations
A Swedish/Norwegian drummer and composer based in Oslo, educated at the NTNU Jazz Programme and the Norwegian Academy of Music. My work is rooted in the drum kit as an acoustic instrument—a platform for both traditional sounds associated with the instrument and unconventional soundscapes. Through the drum kit, rhythm, pulse, timbre, and texture are explored as evolving elements in real time, both acoustically and in interaction with electronic tools.Improvisation plays a central role in my work, functioning as a framework for shaping form, density, and presence through layered musical information and interaction between musicians. I am active in a wide range of projects, including LAV SOL, Liv Andrea Hauge Trio, han gaiden, PHØNIX, Aksel Rønning Trio, and Alex Ventling’s Wavemakers, spanning contexts from electro-acoustic improvisation and contemporary jazz to electronic and groove-based music.
I'll get back to you as soon as possible:)
LAV SOL means ‘low sun’ in Norwegian. The trio was formed in Trondheim in 2021 to create improvised music inspired by electronica, hip-hop and rock. A foundation of acoustic instruments blends with electronica. Working with graphic scores, composing with riffs and creating structures, the improvisations and the visuals complement each other. The group, formed in Trondheim in 2021, has since performed at well-attended concerts across Europe. Highlights include appearances at Jazzahead in Bremen, Südtirol Jazzfestival in Italy, and Kongsberg Jazzfestival in Norway, where they have been recognized as exciting newcomers on the Norwegian jazz scene. Their debut album, Live at Dokkhuset, was released in 2024 under the record label Pluritone. LAV SOL's inaugural album, "Live at Dokkhuset" hit the airwaves via the Norwegian label Pluritone.Recorded by Tor Breivik during a Trondheim Jazzforum concert at Dokkhuset Scene on June 1, 2023, a 32-minute improvisation invites the listener to an adventure through different sonic rooms. On this record, delicate notes metamorphose into potent crescendos, while purposeful pauses embrace silence as a nuanced tool. The dynamic interplay between acoustic and electronic elements introduces layers of depth, giving rise to moments of both harmony and discord. LAV SOL ventures into a sonic canvas, playfully painting with pulses, textures, and intricate layers of sound. The outcome is a radiant expression, akin to the sun rising or gently settling for dawn.
"A wonderful, electronic hour
that I really enjoyed! - Jan Granlie”I experience musical tension between Heiða Karine Johannesdottir's manipulated tuba sound, Håvard Aufles' straight piano tones, and his manipulated synth playing, against August Glännestrand's rhythmic drive on the
drumset.”
- Johan Hauknes“a continuous and dazzling flow of sound that passed through various dynamic phases”
- Libero Farnè“an alienating atmosphere that is both rippling and intriguing”
